Campus Visit

This past Saturday, this newtreemom visited her “new sycamore” in the freshman dorm at Indiana State University (home of the Sycamores, alma mater of Larry Bird).

Tacked to the bulletin board above her desk was a “to do” list:

  • finish history study guide
  • study for history test
  • laundry
  • return borrowed stuff
  • make room appropriate for Mom
  • find that important paper
  • Art paper
  • do Comm dignostic
  • do hair

Did you notice that item hidden in the middle of the list?

“Make room appropriate for Mom”

I had to laugh when I asked her just what that meant.

Her reply?

“Don’t open the closet!”

How nice that she cleaned for you!

I love the list. Did you open the closet?

How fun that she’s a list maker. When I was feeling overwhelmed about my son’s wedding four days after school was out, my daughter made a list to help me!

Awesome small moment that says so much. Maybe there’s an essay here about the expectations we carry as daughters, or a metaphor about closets in the mother daughter relationship? 🙂

Yes, I could take off in any number of directions from this moment…
I guess it truly is the small moments that hold the meaning in life…no wonder slice of life writing is so compelling.

I notice that her priorities really centered on your visit. Lucky you and lucky college student.
