Gray Day

Clouds hover, low and gray,
Blocking the blue sky,
Intermittently sending down
Fat raindrops and bits of ice

Gusts of wind stir
Gray-brown tree branches,
Barren of leaves, yet
Laden with tight buds

Amidst the gray and brown
Evergreens stand,
Columns of dark green
Reaching for the sky,
Limbs swaying in the wind

Light filters through
The thick cloud cover,
Subdued but not vanquished

Worry and sadness
Hang over me,
Fear grabs me and
Tears slide down my face

Still,
Love spreads light,
Faith stands firm,
Hope reaches high and
Joy is curled tight
Within my heart…

Waiting to be unfurled
