After the drenching, cleansing rain
the birds felt the call to evensong
Perched on dripping branches,
they joyfully sang
Sitting atop the glistening roof peaks,
they trilled and whistled
Standing on wet fence posts,
they warbled and tweeted
Hopping along the soaked ground,
they chirped and peeped
Listening to their symphony,
I, too, lifted my prayers
I loved the imagery in your poem. Reading your words, I felt grateful for this rainy day…which means cancelled practices for both lacrosse and soccer. Whew! Finally a night where we can all be home together for dinner while the rain pours outside our windows. Those little birds (and the poet who wrote about them) definitely are wise to think of rain as something to sing about…
I just loved the 2nd lines on your poem and the ending sure hit the spot for me today. Thanks. xo nanc
I love listening to the birds plan their day as I am in bed waiting to get up and start mine.
Lovely. Birds prompt notice…strong imagery.
What a beautiful poem – such a lovely tribute. Love the last 2 lines especially.
I love your bird poetry. I remember one you gave me permission to share with my students – Little Brown Bird? or something like that. I still have it in a file somewhere. We’ve been listening to bird symphonies too and lifting our hearts in prayer for dear friends and so many who suffer.
Your words beautifully capture the music of the birdsong while providing a melody for your poem.
This is a cameo of a poem. Thank you for writing it and sharing it with us.

Lots of beautiful imagery!
Love this poem and feel drenched in birdsong and joy. Thanks for sharing.
I am going to learn from these birds who are making all kinds of joyful noises despite just having experienced rain. A good reminder for life and prayer is an apt response!
Beautiful images, both in sound and sight. Love this and am glad you are writing poetry this April!
